Transit: LAX - JFK - LHR

An auspicious sign from Happy Family Vegetarian Restaurant.

This trip has crept up on me at an alarming rate. While I should have been getting preparations made I have been working like mad on a wide variety of projects. These include, but are not limited to a website or two, a DVD project for Hewlett Packard, a bunch of Illustrator work for a book, getting certified as a trainer for Final Cut Pro and Shake. All this along with trying to wrap up my two and a half year tenure with Technicolor has kept me focused on everything but the imminent trip.

The last four days have found me averaging 3 hours of sleep a night. My last night in LA has proved no exception. I have everything layed out to be packed, but crash at 3 a.m. before it all gets tucked away. Up again at 6 a.m. to get everything organized. My folks are due at 7:30 to drive me to the airport. We finally get underway at 8:30. Traffic is light and we easily make our target of 9 a.m. Check-in is fairly quick despite the stepped up scrutiny of every little thing but nearly turned into disaster as I walked away from the X-Ray machine without my Laptop. I chat with some friends before setting my phone to hibernate until my return in December.

I have a short 5 hour hop over to JFK on United. Their planes are spacious and the service quite good. Our landing is on the rough side and I manage to bust off the plug for my good headphones. Rather a bummer and a bit of a setback. I get some cheapy replacements to get me through the DVD project. We have a quick hour layover in New York, then off for the 6 hour hop to London. On the flight to London, I enjoy watching “The Whale Rider,” an excellent New Zealand film.
